They have charm, class, and plenty of style, but there may be one thing the British men in the royal family lack — hair. We remember the early photos of Prince William that showed him with a full mop. But clearly, those days are long past. And now that all eyes are on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, we think we see some male-pattern baldness creeping up on Harry’s head, too.
We know Prince William for his well-kept shave now, but we remember the days when the young prince had plenty of hair. People shows photos of William back when he was a child, and it appears his hair was quite thick. Though by 2004, eagle-eyed fans of the royal could tell his hair was beginning to thin. It was 2006 when folks really started to notice something was amiss. And by the time he was engaged to Kate Middleton, the male-pattern baldness was in full swing. Next: This is what William did when he knew there was no saving his hair.
It took years for William to embrace the inevitable. But by January 2018, he was out in full force with his new, shaven head. GQ notes Prince William first showed up to Evelina London Children’s hospital with his hairdo (and, evidently, a brand new level of confidence). We suspect this look will now last a lifetime. If you miss William’s pre-buzz look, you’ve likely seen a similar head of hair on another royal. Prince Edward, William’s uncle, also has the same texture, thinness, and balding patterns as William was sporting. Next: Even his father has publically spoken about their family’s hair problem.
For a senior, Prince Charles has a surprising amount of hair left — and it seems he has no plans of shaving it. Either way, we can see he has the same pattern of baldness that William possesses. And Charles even went so far as to make fun of William’s inevitable fate on his wedding day to Kate Middleton. The Belgravia Centre reports Charles joked, “The thing about growing older is that your children get taller than you so they can see your bald spots. Now, in my case, I can see his.” Next: William’s not the only one who needs to worry.
Talk over William’s hair has been going on since his 20s, but it seems his brother is also experiencing the same issue. Harry’s only in his early 30s, but for the men in the royal family, that’s really when the balding becomes noticeable. And right after Harry and Meghan announced their engagement to the world, we couldn’t help but notice the back of his head looking quite bare. Daily Express explains male-pattern baldness is a genetic issue, so we shouldn’t be too surprised it’s affecting all the men. And from the looks of it, Harry’s situation could become much, much worse. Next: Here’s what one hair doctor predicts for Harry.
Once male-pattern baldness becomes noticeable, the future usually isn’t too bright. As Dr. Shahmalak of Crown Clinic tells Daily Express, Harry is “developing an appreciable bald spot around his crown and the thinning towards the front of his hairline is accelerating.” The doctor also adds there’s thinning across the top of his scalp, too. Here’s something even more startling. Dr. Shahmalak also says if Harry doesn’t do anything to stop the balding process, he may be as bald as William in just 10 years. Next: What’s Harry going to do about his balding?
Will Harry gracefully accept his fate like William, or will he try to fight genetics? According to Daily Star, the young prince may plan to go under the knife to fix the issue. According to one source, “Harry is looking at splashing out on the expensive procedure later in the year when all the commotion around the wedding calms down.” And this procedure could involve up to four procedures to cover his bald spot and reverse his hair loss. Next: Haven’t noticed his hair loss? You’ll need to see this one photo.
As you can see, it’s not just the balding in the back of Harry’s head that’s apparent anymore. The top is thinning quite severely as well — and it seems to be progressing at a rapid pace. If Harry does choose to fix the issue with a transplant, he’ll be in good company. BuzzFeed reminds us plenty of celebrities, like Jude Law, Matthew McConaughey, and Tom Hanks have also somehow reversed their hair loss treatment in raipur (though many of them have yet to admit it). And a source tells Daily Star Harry’s wife, Meghan, also approves. Next: Are the men the only ones in the royal family losing their hair?
While the hair on the men’s side seems to be disappearing, the royal women have plenty to go around. Even Queen Elizabeth II, who is in her 90s, can still style her signature hairdo the same way she did 60 years ago. While the queen has a full head of hair, Daily Mail Online reports not everyone’s been a fan of her choice in styling it. In The Crown, which draws on events that actually happened, Prince Philip teases the queen about her “helmet hair.” In the show, she said the style was “tidy and sensible” — something we can totally envision her saying today.
Could Prince Harry soon be rocking a shaved scalp like his brother? Here’s what’s suspected, including one photo that shows some serious balding on the recently-wedded royal (page 7).
