Famous women have come forward to express their breast implant illness stories as Wendy Williams told viewers she doesn't want to have her 24-year-old breast implants replaced.

Now that  Wendy Williams has announced she is sick with Graves’ disease, and described Graves’ disease’s relation to weight loss, as reported by the  Inquisitr, I can’t help but wonder if breast implant illness is the root cause of her problems. The Institute of Medicine’s Safety of Silicone Breast Implants reports that Graves disease is a reported symptom of silicone breast implantation. It uses the “Graves’ disease following silicone breast implantation”  government report as a reference, authored by Bernet VJ, et al. J Rheumatol in 1994. As a journalist who first began writing about  breast implant sicknessafter discovering that sometimes graphic Instagram labels like # explanthave grown from only 426 posts in April 2016 to 3,105 posts in February 2018, I’ve been contacted by women who blame their breast implants for their illnesses. The # explantation label has grown from 103 posts to 175 posts in nearly two years, while the label called # breastexplantation has grown from 174 posts to 600 posts in that same time. The # breastimplantillness hashtag has surged from only 416 posts in 2016 to more than 8,500 posts in 2018. After publishing the article titled “Explant Breast Surgery: Why Women Are Getting Their Breast Implants Removed ,” which was shared by  Hugh Hefner’s wife Crystal Hefner on Facebook, I was contacted by other women who described similar journeys of getting their breast implants removed. Karen McDougal, the woman at the center of controversy for allegedly having an adulterous affair with Donald Trump, first contacted me on February 13, 2017, to describe her  breast implant removal journey and provide photos only two weeks after getting her breast implants removed. Karen had found me as a journalist via Jamee Bramlett Cook, a woman who manages the  Breast Implant Victim Advocacy Facebook group. A common theme emerged among some of the women who described varying symptoms that they believed their breast implants caused, whether saline or silicone, be they only months old or years old. As I watched Wendy Williams cry and explain the symptoms of her Graves’ disease, I couldn’t help but flash back to what Wendy recently told her viewers about her own breast implants. As reported by the  New York Post, Wendy received her breast implants in 1994. Williams recently told her viewers that although she received recommendations to have her 24-year-old breast implants replaced, she balked at the notion. Whereas other famous women like  Playboy playmates have told  Inside Edition why they got their “toxic” breast implants removed, and  Stephanie March explained why she got her breast implants removed, as reported by the  Inquisitr, it doesn’t appear that Williams will join that group of famous women any time soon.

Facebook groups like “ My silicone breast implant story so far” shared  Deanna Spencer Scott‘s  post, which spoke of diseases in conjunction with breast implants. Plenty of other online testimonies, like “ The Naked Truth About Breast Implants” also speak of breast augmentation as related to Graves’ disease. Whereas not every person who gets breast implants will likely suffer from Graves’ disease or any type of breast implant illness, there are enough personal experiences being published online to give the matter further thought.
